Benefits of Fitting Alloy Wheels

A set of alloy wheels will improve the appearance of your vehicle and in so doing will make your vehicle look smart and stand out from the crowd.

A lighter wheel significantly reduces the moment of inertia. This saves a considerable amount of power in turning the wheel.

Advantages:

• Improved acceleration
• Improved braking, reduced stopping distance
• Lighter, sharper steering, gives better feel and more responsive handling.
• Tyre temperatures and pressures are more stable
• Improved wheel & tire balancing
• Fuel consumption reduces

Added to which the Smart looks of your new Alloy Wheels will be simply stunning!

Alloy Wheel Guide - Alloy Wheels Explained:

PCD & Offset Explained...

PCD:

PCD is a measurement of the diameter (distance) between the centre of the bolt holes. Imagine a circle drawn through the centre of each bolt hole (see diagram below) and then a measurement taken across to determine the PCD measurement. PCD stands for ‘pitch circle diameter’ and the measurement is recorded in millimeters.

e.g. A common fitment is 4 studs and a PCD of 108mm, hence a wheel fitment 4x108. It is important you supply us you car details so that we can determine the correct fitment of wheel for you application.

OFFSET (also referred to as 'ET'):

This measurement determines how close or far war the rim of the alloy wheel sits to or away from the car (see diagram below). The ET measurement (offset) is important as firstly it effects fitment and secondly alters the handling characteristics of you car.

RIM SIZE:

This is measured in inches. A larger wheel looks great, fills those arches better and optimised provides better performance. However please also be aware that acceleration will change as will top speed and the indicated speed on you speed will be different!!

The most popular sizes with hot hatches / performance cars now range from 15” to 19”. Smartwheels can source just about any style of wheel of varying size. We have handled wheel from 13” through to monster 24” rims.

Larger wheels allow fitment of upgraded larger brake kits, an essential performance upgrade. Finally please be aware that altering rim size can effect fitment such as clashing with suspension struts if sizes and offsets are radically different (especially if your car is lowered).

Aftermarket Alloy Wheels not only look great, they also provide a host of benefits: Produced to very high quality levels aftermarket alloy wheels are generally lighter than there production counterparts; the reduced mass helping your car accelerate faster, stop quicker, more accurate steering and will burn less fuel due to reduction in the moment of inertia – a number of benefits providing more reasons to fit aftermarket alloy wheels to your car!
